Celebrate Earth Day with the Eco-friendly LG Optimus Elite

Earth Day is this Sunday, April 22nd. Sprint is commemorating the day by releasing the new LG Optimus Elite, an eco-friendly Android Smartphone, that while being a low-end device for those on a budget, has some great features. Best of all, it is free of nasty, hazardous toxic materials. Sprint is even shipping it in a fully recyclable box.

The LG Optimus Elite replaces the LG Optimus S, and is improved in every way. It runs on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, but only is only powered by an 800Mhz single-core processor. While this isn’t anything to shout about, it is still enough to keep the phone speeding along nicely. The 3.5 inch screen is in line with other phones in its price range. There is a 5 mega-pixel flash enabled rear camera that also record video, but not as super high resolution. The camera is adequate, but not fantastic.

The big news is that LG has included an NFC chip in the Optimus Elite. What is NFC? It is “Near Field Communication,” allowing users to access true value features such as Google Wallet, an app that allows payment using a mobile device at participating retailers like Bloomingdales, Toys “R” Us, CVS, Gap, Macy’s and more. Not a Sprint customer? Virgin Mobile will also be offering the LG Optimus Elite, and this is the first device in the Virgin Mobile USA line-up to support NFC and Google Wallet.
