Summer 2011: Top Android Phones

It’s June and we are ready for summer, right? Are you also ready to upgrade your cell phone? ZDNet has reviewed Android phones and come up with their top 4 for this summer. ZDNet has listed Samsung’s Droid Charge, HTC’s Droid Incredible 2, HTC’s Sensation, and Samsung’s Galaxy S II as their top picks. Noticeably missing are any from Motorola or LG. Another notable MIA is the HTC EVO 3D. Hmmm… wonder why they didn’t include HTC’s newest EVO 3D?

Samsung Droid Charge – This Smartphone works on the speedy Verizon LTE network and is no slouch when it comes to hardware. It is super lightweight, boasts of great battery life and has the incredible 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus (800×480) screen. Samsung used four physical buttons on the Charge which is a nice change from all the touch-sensitive buttons currently in being used by most of the other Droid Smartphones. James Kendrick, ZDNet says it is by far his favorite new Smartphone and actually goes as far as saying he may “pony-up” the $299 for the Droid Charge and make it his newest phone.

HTC Droid Incredible 2 – While this Droid Incredible 2 is not the most powerful but certainly fast enough with the Snapdragon processor. The Droid Incredible 2 does not have the latest 4G LTE connectivity on the Verizon network, it is a 3G-only Smartphone. It a CDMA/EVDO phone for Verizon, but also a world phone with HSPA for international roaming. For the frequent traveler, this phone may be just what you need. It does have 2 cameras, a 1.3 megapixel facing the front, with an 8 megapixel camera in the back. With dual LED flashes, it can double as a great flashlight with a flashlight app.

HTC Sensation - With a dual-core processor, qHD display and 8MP camera, the Sensation is state-of-the-art in every way. It has an aluminum body and runs on the Gingerbread platform, the newest Android OS. It features HTC Sense, an overlay HTC is promoting, giving you some cool features available only through HTC Smartphones.

Samsung’s Galaxy S II – Get full HD recording and playback on the super 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus (800×480) screen. The Samsung website boasts the Galaxy S II’s lightening speed, unrivaled performance of the Dual Core Application Processor for faster browsing, quicker multi-tasking, a smoother UI, snappier streaming and highly efficient gaming. With encoding/decoding ability that supports video play and recording, makes it no.1 among dual cores. In addition, The Galaxy S II has NFC (Near Field Communication) that allows you to leave your wallet at home.

Why aren’t Motorola and LG represented in James Kendrick’s top list of Android Smartphones? It’s a mystery to me. I love my Droid X, and I have heard good things about the new Droid X 2. I haven’t had much experience with the LG Android Smartphones, but a co-worker of mine has an LG Ally and loves it. It isn’t as fancy (or as smart?) as my Droid X, but it does have a slide out keyboard, which is quite handy. And of course the other question I have, why isn’t the HTC EVO 3D listed? Perhaps after it is released this week, Mr. Kendrick will want to include it. Perhaps he hasn’t been able to review it yet?
